Once again we are privileged to partner with Lutheran Social Services to provide recent refugee and immigrant families with much needed household items. There are two portions to this service project.

Welcome Kits: These include shampoo, a bar of soap, comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, laundry basket, detergent, towel and washcloth. Bring your donated items for collection on Sunday, September 19th.

Free Sale: This year, the Free Sale will be held on Saturday, September 25th at the Refugee and Immigration Services office. The day will include both the Free Sale and a meal. There will be a variety of service opportunities that day so watch the worship folder, as well as the MyFamily and Facebook sites for more details.

The Free Sale is a great opportunity to donate stuff you no longer use, items left from a summer rummage sale, or things you find while working on that fall cleaning project. Items you can donate include bedding, towels, laundry baskets, cookware, bake ware, utensils, cups & glasses, jackets, gloves, scarves, shoes, boots, books, toys, clocks, vacuums, brooms, mops, shovels, cleaning supplies, small furniture, and new and gently used clothing. Items will be collected and sorted at church on Sunday, September 19th.

For their service project, the Chaplain/Luther Community Group is collecting gifts for children currently at Children’s Home Society. On Sunday, December 13th, you will be able to choose a child to provide a gift for. If your family would like to provide a gift for a child, but do not have the time to do the shopping, you may pick a gift request off the tree and the Chaplin/Luther Community Group will do the shopping! Bring your gift(s) to church on December 20th, and the community group will deliver them to CHS.

Each year hundreds of boys call McCrossan Boys Ranch home. Many of them arrive literally with only the clothes on their backs. Although the Thursday night Paulsen/Grebner Community Group started out wanting to provide for one young man with ties to The Point, they are now going to expand their collection efforts. If you have any boys or mens new and/or gently used clothing to donate, please bring it to church on Sunday, November 1st. Bill & Maggie Paulsen will be at the Next Step table to collect what is brought in. Some of the things that can be donated are: socks, jeans, sweatshirts (zip & hooded are okay), shirts, undergarments, jackets, hats, gloves, shoes and work boots.

Books for Hawthorne Elementary

For their Service Project, the Luther/Klumper Community Group has chosen to collect books for children at Hawthorne Elementary. The need is great so they are opening up the project to the entire church family. The target ages are 3 to 6, but books for children of any age can be donated. The hope is for new and gently used books to go home in the back packs of every child in the target group. If more can be collected, books will be sent home with older kids as well. We will be collecting books each Sunday through November 15. Please bring your new and gently used children’s books and drop them in the box by the Next Step Table near the exit.
