Out of our passionate pursuit to love and serve God, the following examples of our service reflect what is truly important to us as a faith community.

• Following our Launch Sunday (3/25/07 and on)

Spring Cleaning on a local ministry site – We provided the labor for “spring cleaning” at Manna Retreat Center.

Scraping and Painting a Garage – A Community Group provided the labor to scrape and paint a garage for a woman who is readying a home for sale that is in the estate of her parents.

Serving a Meal to a Family – A Community Group prepared a meal to share with a family whose husband/father who had an unexpected medical crisis.

Comfort Kits for Hospice Cottages – We provided two “Comfort Kits” to be used by the chaplains in ministry to patients and families in the Hospice Cottages.

Project Camp at Camp Judson – We joined others to ready the facilities of Camp Judson for a summer of camping ministry.

Extreme Home Makeover – We sent a family to Orlando on a vacation and then remodeled their home from landscaping, to central air/furnace. all new kitchen, all new bathrooms, all new paint and flooring, and new furniture.

Prairie Light Youth Camp – We partnered with an ongoing ministry to help staff this children and youth day camp on the Rosebud Reservation.

Project Supply One Student (S.O.S.) – We partnered with a community agency (The Banquet) to provide school supplies for children in the Sioux Empire who needed essentials for school.

School Supplies: Rapid City North Middle School – We sent funds, clothing, hygiene items and school supplies to a middle school teacher who serves in a middle school with a large number of students at poverty level.

Coat Drive – We partnered with a local ministry to donate coats and winter clothing for families in need.

Providing a Meal for a Grieving Family – A Community Group shared a meal with a family in grief.

Raked and Mowed Lawn – People came and served a family in grief by raking and mowing their lawn.

Make A Difference Day: Pie Baking – We baked 30 apple pies for the six elementary, middle and high schools in our neighborhood and delivered them with a note thanking them for making a difference in the lives of students.

Make A Difference Day: Patio Build – We removed a rotting deck and poured a concrete patio on the home of a widow.

Make A Difference Day: Landscaping Help – We provided landscaping “refreshing” to a home that had been vandalized that is waiting to be sold.

Breakfast at Labor Ready – We provided breakfast for the working poor at Labor Ready for workers who arrive by 4:00 am to get “day jobs”.

Moving Assistance – We helped a single, young woman move into a new situation.

Mentoring in the Public Schools – We have a group of seven people who are mentoring children through the public schools/Lutheran Social Services or Big Brother/Big Sister.

Hospice Ministry – We have three people who are serving as volunteers, chaplains or staff in the area of hospice ministry.

Jordyn Olsen Family Gift Card Offering – Jordyn Olsen is a 1 ½ year-old girl who was diagnosed with cancer when she was six months old. We supported the Olsen family—Justin, Jodie and big sister Brenna, by purchasing gift cards to help meet their needs, provide refreshment and celebrate Christmas.

Winter Wear for Danny Janklow’s Students—Danny Janklow is a teacher at North Middle School in Rapid City who goes above and beyond to meet the educational and social needs of many of his low-income students. We provided much needed winter wear (gloves, stocking hats, and socks).

Big Brothers, Big Sisters Holiday Activity Night— We helped with the Holiday Activity Night by providing treats and various activities for mentors and their matches. Out of this experience four groups of people (individuals or couples) decided to be Big Brothers/Big Sisters, so four more children will have mentors.

All Church Cookie Exchange—People prayed about who they might encourage while making holiday treats. Then they brought 2-dozen homemade holiday treats to exchange to church and took home a mixed plate of treats to share with a neighbor or friend who needed encouragement.

Night Watch Meal at the Salvation Army – The Night Watch Meal Program is an outreach-feeding program designed to supplement existing programs in the community. When the Banquet is closed (weekends) the Salvation Army provides food for those in need. We prepared, served, and cleaned up a meal for 100 homeless and low-income individuals and sent home a goodie bag as a Christmas treat.

Adopt-A-Family – We adopted a family through the 211 Helpline Holiday Clearinghouse for Christmas. We provided Christmas gifts as well as food, household, and personal care items for a single mother and her two young children who were in need this Christmas.

Food Distribution for Senior Citizens – In partnership with the Salvation Army we delivered food boxes to homebound, low-income Senior Citizens. Each box, weighing 30lbs, contained staples like cold cereal, rice or pasta, peanut butter, cheese, instant milk, canned vegetable, canned fruit, canned meat, and beans.

Sioux Falls Public Schools Backpack Snack Program – In partnership with the Food Pantry, we packed backpacks with easy-to-make food, to send home with children who might not get enough to eat on weekends.

Food Bank—Senior Boxes – We partnered with our local Food Bank to assemble boxes for elderly persons at least 60 years of age who meet income eligibility requirements a part of the USDA Commodities Supplemental Food Program.

Project Warm Up – The youth of The Point gathered and made fleece “tie blankets” to share with children and youth identified as homeless by the Sioux Falls Public School system. They partnered with Lincoln High School Key Club in this effort.

Christmas Decorating – A community group decorated a home for Christmas for a woman who is wheel chair bound and whose husband is in Iraq this year.
